Inspired Kathy’s Review:
I was offered a Kobo Aura for review last year when it came out but I’ve never reviewed it for silly reasons. It’s hard to write a review on a product you don’t use often. I rarely use my Kobo for no other reason that I’m lazy. My biggest issue has nothing to do with the device itself. In fact the display and backlight on this Kobo are awesome and actually slightly preferred to my Kindle. It does feel just a little heavier in my hand than my Kindle 6″ but that doesn’t really bother me.
We are a digital family. We actually own 4 Kindles, 2 laptops, 5 androids, 7 desktop computers, a Nook, iPods, an iPad etc. I’m really not partial to one particular brand so adding a Kobo to the mix seemed like a great thing but it just hasn’t got used much. The main reason I rarely read on this is simply because it takes more time to get books on to the device. I much prefer to just email books to my Kindle instead of having to plug the Kobo in and transfer the books manually. It really doesn’t take that long but in my fast paced life I opt for the fastest and simplest way to do things when I can.
I download and read most of my books a lot of books from Netgalley and those can be sent directly to my Kindle. To read them on my Kobo I have to download them the digital copies to my computer then plug in and transfer them to the device. This extra step means I use my Kindle most of the time.
And then of course there is the issue that Amazon offers so many books that are not available on other platforms so to read those I need a Kindle.
If you are not a fan of Amazon then look into Kobo. This is a great alternative for those who prefer a non-Amazon device.
My Rating: 4 Stars – Great Product.
